<-- Meet Laura Meagher. She's been writing stories since she was younger than Eliza, the main character in The Ghost at Old Oak Way.
Her parents, who were both school teachers, patiently helped her type them up and send them off inthe mail, always hoping for that big break -- at a "ripe old age" of 10! She started us on this great adventure as authors with our first book, The Ghost at Old Oak Way.
Then along came Laurie Cameron, Laura's aunt. --> She was more typical, always wanting to write the great American novel, but never quite getting around to it. Instead, she spent forty years reading novels and dreaming about writing one of her own.
Then one day, Laura shared her story with Laurie. It was called The Bookshop Mystery. Laurie loved it. It was loaded with mystery and magic and hidden spaces. So Laurie made a proposal to Laura to team up. Embellishing Laura's plot, they dreamed up some extra characters - Melinda and Simon - added some new scenes and worked on dialogue to bring the characters to life.
And it all happened over the internet because Laura lived in Illinois and Laurie lived in the Dominican Republic. First Laura would write a chapter and e-mail it to Laurie, then Laurie would write one and e-mail it to Laura. The chapters weren't always sequential. If one of us was inspired to write a particular chapter, she wrote it. We worried about putting it all together later. But each chapter provided inspiration to continue.
Laurie Cameron currently lives in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with her husband, William Brands. She has two children in college. Laura Meagher lives with her husband, Joe, and their three children in the same Chicago suburb where she grew up. This is our first published novel, a true labor of love.
